The Band as winners of the Maroochy Council Mayor’s Most Entertaining Pipe Band on New Years Day 2007
About Us
The Pipe Band is formed from two corps: The Pipe Corps and the Drum Corps. The Pipe Corps plays the musical selections supported by the Drum Corps that provides the rhythm.
The musical director, known as the Pipe Major, selects appropriate music for performances, and rehearses and directs the band’s public performances.
The bagpipes are individually owned but the band provides reeds for the chanter and drones, and the outer bag cover.
The snare, tenor and base drums are provided by the band.
Kilts and some uniform items are provided by the Pipe Band but band members are expected to provide their own bonnets, shirts, hose and Ghillie brogues.
The band wears the Ancient MacDonald tartan reflecting its ties to the heartland of the Noosa hinterland at Lake MacDonald that was named after Clr. Ian MacDonald who died during his service as Shire Chairman.
The band is a full member of the Queensland Pipe Band Association.
Noosa & District Pipe Band at the Maclean Pipe Band Competition
The Band plays at many social events such as: Ceilidhs, Fetes, Carnivals, Hogmanay Parties and others. They also occasionally play in Band Competitions which are held in or close to the Sunshine Coast.
Playing in the competitions is voluntary but helps to develop both the Band and individual piping and drumming skills, as well as improving our marching and drill.
